Our Services

At Shalom Counselling Services we provide a safe, welcoming and non-judgemental space to talk about your concerns. Our experienced, accredited counsellors support individuals, couples, families, and groups from ages 16 and up through both short-term and long-term counselling.

We can help with:

  • Mental Health & Emotional Well-Being: Anxiety; depression; stress management; burnout; self-esteem; personal growth; life transitions; grief and loss 
  • Trauma & Crisis Support: Trauma and abuse, suicidal thoughts and self-harming behaviours 
  • Relationships & Family: Couple and relationship counselling; premarital counselling; family and parenting challenges; communication and conflict resolution 
  • Identity, Sexuality & Spirituality: Sexuality; gender identity and expression; spirituality and questions of meaning and purpose 
  • Work, Health & Life Challenges: Work and career-related concerns; health challenges and living with disabilities; aging, caregiving, and concerns related to aging parents 
  • Substance Use & Addiction: Substance misuse and behavioural addictions

Shalom offers a variety of groups throughout the year. Pre-registration is required for all groups, and availability and schedules may vary. Contact Shalom for current group offerings and registration details.

Pastors & Counsellors in Consultation Groups
Pastors & Counsellors in Consultation allows clergy to connect with colleagues and mental health professional about issues they are facing in the context of their ministry.

Why? Support After A Suicide Loss
This group is run in partnership with the Waterloo Region Suicide Prevention Council. Registration is facilitated through the Suicide Prevention Council at 519-745-2195.

Apart from individual, couple, family and group counselling, Shalom offers a variety of other services to individuals, workplaces and faith institutions.

Shalom offers:

  • Consultation to faith leaders or employers who are dealing with a challenging situation 
  • Speakers/Resource Persons for your community group, faith setting, or workplace on topics pertaining to relationships, mental health and well-being 
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) counselling for workplaces 
  • Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) following a traumatic event 
  • Leadership coaching 
  • Referral to community resources as needed 

Shalom believes everyone should have access to counselling services that are affordable and accessible, We have a sliding fee scale based on household income which is used to set your fee. Our lowest fee starts at $25 up to the full fee of $155.

Insurance
If you have extended health benefits through your job, or a partner’s employer, please check to see the amount covered and whether you are covered by a Registered Social Worker (RSW) or a Registered Psychotherapist (RP). When you have insurance we charge our full fee.We do not process claims directly with your insurance provider. You will need to pay for your appointment and then submit your receipt to insurance.   

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
Shalom has EAP agreements with a number of local businesses and organizations.  Check your employee benefits to see if your employer provides this coverage. If you are an employer that is interested in offering counselling services to your employees, please contact Shalom to discuss this possibility.   

Counselling Collaborative Program – For recipients of Ontario Works and Ontario Disability Support Program 
As a member of the Counselling Collaborative Program, Shalom offers counselling to people receiving Ontario Works (OW) or the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP). This program is made possible by support from the Region of Waterloo and United Way Kitchener Waterloo and area.
